BRST Symmetry: Boundary Conditions and Edge States in Maxwell Electrodynamics
In manifolds with spatial boundary, BRST formalism can be used to quantize gauge theories. We show that, in a U(1) gauge theory, only a subset of all the boundary conditions allowed by the self-adjointness of the Hamiltonian preserves BRST symmetry. Hence, the theory can be quantized using BRST formalism only when that subset of boundary conditions is considered. We also show that for such boun...
متن کاملDual BRST Symmetry in QED
We discuss local and covariant dual BRST symmetry and its consequences in two-dimensional quantum electrodynamics (QED). With the help of BRSTand dual BRST charges, we explore the BRST cohomology of physical states in the quantum Hilbert space. The algebra between conserved and nilpotent BRSTand dual BRST charges leads to the existence of a BRST-extended Casimir operator. The Hodge decompositio...
متن کاملDual Brst Symmetry for Qed
We show the existence of a co(dual)-BRST symmetry for the usual BRST invariant Lagrangian density of an Abelian gauge theory in two dimensions of space-time where a U(1) gauge field is coupled to the Noether conserved current (constructed by the Dirac fields). Under this new symmetry, it is the gauge-fixing term that remains invariant and the symmetry transformations on the Dirac fields are ana...
